Giresun University Erasmus Policy Statement
Giresun University (GRU) is a higher education institution established in 2006. Our university has recently updated its internalization route map in compliance with its strategic priorities and institutional plans. Our internalization strategy is grounded in the idea that the international component in education is a key factor to create a more progressive educational environment and ensure the continuous modernization of higher education institutions in our current epoch. With this vision in mind, we aim to develop and facilitate new international learning environments for our students and create unique teaching and research opportunities for our staff. Likewise, we also plan to attract and host more international students and scholars to our institution from abroad. Hence, participating in the Erasmus Programme constitutes an essential part of our internalization strategy.
Erasmus has contributed to enhancing the international mobility of our staff and students for almost ten years. Currently, our institution has 55 inter-institutional Erasmus agreements with our counterparts from different European countries. For the next program period (2021-2027), we are committed to sustaining our current agreements and keep our strong academic and intellectual collaboration with our partners. We also intend to develop new partnerships and integrate more students and scholars from diverse backgrounds into the programme. For this very purpose, while building new partnerships, we will prioritize the incorporation of different departments and degree programs (first-cycle, second cycle and third cycle) into the programme to ensure that students from different academic disciplines and various levels should have equal access and participate in the programme.
As part of our internalization strategy, our institution is also designing its website to reach out to international students from different geographic regions. To introduce our academic and social life at our institution to prospective international students, our International Relations Office and Erasmus Coordination Centre will update the information regarding all academic programs on our website, provide specific information in English about the cultural and social life in our region for potential Erasmus students and scholars as well.
To enhance the diversity of its faculty and to promote the quality of academic standards, GRU also believes that cooperation with other higher education institutions is of utmost importance. In other words, we support the idea that the mobility of our academic and administrative staff will contribute to the broadening of their academic and administrative careers and add a global dimension to their program development and teaching skills. In this respect, our institution aims to participate in collaborative research and training projects with different partners from Erasmus program countries to promote and strengthen the competence and motivation of our academic and administrative staff. Considering that Giresun University’s institutional strategy underlines the quality of teaching, participating in international collaborative projects through Erasmus also serves the purpose of quality assurance in education and provides new opportunities for global visibility.
GRU also has initiated a digital transformation process to strengthen its distance education infrastructure. We believe digitalization in education is a key contributor to the reduction of administrative times in teaching and a great opportunity to enhance the learning experience of our students at the same time. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our institution successfully digitized its teaching materials and have made online education accessible to all its students. In this respect, we will utilize our technological and digital infrastructure to implement digital mobility management in line with the technical standards of the European Student Card Initiative. We firmly believe that the digitalization of Erasmus will reduce the paperwork load of Erasmus students and staff before and during their mobility. It will also be a complementary part of our strategic priority in terms of promotion and implementation of paperless Erasmus.
