Erasmus+ is an exchange program run by the European Union to support education, training, internship, professional development, youth, and sports in European and countries. Created in 1987, the original aim of the Erasmus program was to foster closer collaboration among universities and higher education institutions in Europe. However, over time, the program has expanded and is now refered to as "Erasmus Plus" consolidating various attempts by the EU to provide international mobility for university students and staff. The Erasmus+ program completed its first funding cycle from 2014 to 2020 and is currently in its second cycle running from 2021 to 2027. It is the most popular exchange program in recent times and as of 2021, more than 13 million students and staff have benefited from this program.
